Make a Duo effect span the full shot

Align a Duo effect’s start and end with its shot boundaries, inspect timing after trims, and remove unintended inactive gaps.

When a move is supposed to last the entire shot, its effect range should begin and end at that shot’s boundaries. A shorter pill can leave an unintended pause or state change.

Read timeline time, not only pill width

Select the effect and inspect the time range displayed in the Timeline effect panel. Those times describe its position within the sequence. A shot that starts after earlier shots does not begin at zero on the overall timeline.

For example, if a shot begins at 2.5 seconds and lasts 2.5 seconds, a full-shot effect runs from 2.5 to 5.0 seconds. Any deliberate gap before the shot also contributes to its timeline position. Visual width helps, but the numeric range is the stronger check.

Match both boundaries

The automatic new-shot effect starts across the full new shot. Later trimming, moving or editing timing is a reason to inspect that relationship again, especially in an older project.

  1. Select the intended shot and identify its start and end on the timeline.
  2. Select its effect pill and compare the displayed range.
  3. Resize the effect’s edges to the shot boundaries when a full-shot move is intended.
  4. Inspect Start and End states after changing the timing.
  5. Scrub the first and last moments of the shot, then play across neighboring boundaries.

Keep deliberate holds explicit

A shorter effect is not always a mistake. You may want a still hold before a reveal or after the device settles. In that case, the inactive interval should be part of the storyboard and the model’s state should remain coherent.

If the phone snaps at the beginning or end of the range, compare the effect endpoint with the surrounding shot state. Do not stretch an unrelated effect across several shots just to remove a visible gap. Give each range a clear job and verify any overlap before exporting the complete sequence.
